Star Wars - R2D2 diaper cake

R2D2 Diaper Cake

I was estatic when asked if I would make something for a baby shower with the nursery theme being none other than STAR WARS.I'm not really a movie geek, but the cute little R2D2 came to mind and the fun began.

I started with a waste basket from The Container Store (I would highly recommend the more cylindrical one found on Amazon. This tapered one made it very difficult to get the decals on straight.)

Then, using my handy dandy Silhouette SD (if you don't have one of these, you need one!) I cut out vinyl shapes to transform this waste basket into a droid shaped diaper disposal for this precious baby's Star Wars nursery.

Using the final product as the center of the diaper cake, I surrounded the base with fanned out diapers attached with ribbon, added more diapers and ribbon for his "legs", sat the whole thing on top of baby wipes, and attached a few blue baby products to add some details.

Of course, once we had a theme going we had a hard time stopping. We used some fusable fabric to make onesies numbered 1 -12 for his first year of pictures (all in star wars fabric of course). The lady who ordered the gift spent countless hours hand stitching a soft book based on the Jedi theme. And I am still wanting to make a mobile using the little cube shaped printables that can be found online (search R2D2 cubeecraft).
